MY STORY
Ayurveda transformed my life as my path to follow and share.
In August, 1997, after an enlightening trip to India to visit my spiritual teacher, Sai Baba, I came back home to incredibly challenging health issues. I was having fevers of 104+ every night for 3 months and the western doctors could not find anything wrong in multiple lab reports taken. I was asked to take "Tylenol" to bring the fevers down every night and, as a result, started getting liver damage. Every doctor I went to see from Stanford to Peninsula Hospital told me I had the disease of their specialty.
I was diagnosed with many autoimmune diseases from lupus, meningitis, chronic rheumatoid arthritis with multiple prescriptions for each symptom. Finally, by November, 1997, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease/ Lymphoma Cancer and given approximately 6 months to live. I was told to start chemotherapy right away. With my good fortune, I found an Ayurvedic physician in Bellevue, Washington, and chose Ayurveda instead of chemotherapy to cure something that was a mystery.
I never had cancer and don't believe any of the diagnoses were accurate because I'm still here. However, this made me realize how many people are told they have some kind of disease, and feel like they don't have a choice. There is a clear explanation according to Ayurveda that is simple and healed me within 21 days.
I was 28 years old and never had any major illnesses prior. I was a professionally training for 12 years as a kathak (classical indian dance) dancer while working in the hi-tech world. With an athletic body type I couldn't understand how every specialist I was referred to gave me the name of the disease they specialized in such as Meningitis, Lupus, and chronic rheumatoid arthritis to new autoimmune diseases I had never heard of. Every single one wrote me at least 3 prescriptions. This was my own personal insight of the western medical world.

MY AYURVEDA EXPERIENCE
In 21 days, from the time I met my Ayurvedic doctor until I came home, I was completely balanced and felt better than before. No pains, no migranes and knew how to manage my body with diet, food choices and lifestyle for optimal health.
I was new to Ayurveda, never heard of it before in my life. The Ayurveda physician, Dr. Virendra Sodhi, was the only one who asked me about my complete health and well-being from the time I was born, in addition to how I ended up in the state I did. He determined my doshas and imbalances.
I received Ayurveda treatments for 21 days called Panchakarma (Ayurvedic Detox Program) purging all toxins out of my system. This included balancing herbs, food recommendations for nourishing the depleted tissues, breathing techniques to bring life force (prana) back into my body, yoga and meditation, receiving daily Abhyanga oil massages with steam and nasya (nose oil treatments).
I couldn't believe the luxurious feeling of getting my body back into balance always reminding me of the chemotherapy experience would have done to me by this time. The specific medicated herbal oils were used to remove all the lymphatic congestion in my body. It smelled so good and felt painfully great.
I clearly had no idea at the time how powerful this treatment was. Quite honestly, I was clueless why I was there but it felt so good to be there compared to a hospital where I was only an appointment time with a name and file. Here I received daily attention and knew exactly what to eat and drink when I got home. It was definitely better than visiting another confused doctor with a strange diagnosis.
I felt great in the space of Ayurveda where I was honored, respected and given compassion when I looked and felt weak and horrible.
I appreciated the honesty of determining the cause and root of my illness.
Whenever I asked the Ayurvedic doctor what "the disease" was I could possibly have. Impressively, he never named any diseases but always reviewed my blood reports and told me about the different areas of my health and body that needed optimizing such as my lung energy or kidneys and liver. He told me this "disease process" might have triggered seven years ago by checking my tongue and doing a pulse analysis. I did experience a traumatic event in my life but had no idea how he knew.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH WESTERN MEDICINE
As I was referred from one specialist to another, I was diagnosed with a range of serious ailments including lupus, meningitis, chronic rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and finally Hodgkin disease. The specialists took history of my symptoms but no one ever looked at my body's history to see what the cause might be. I was only asked to go for blood tests with my arms bruised because the nurse usually couldn't find my vein.
I continued to have horrible migranes, visited the emergency room a few times in the middle of the night because I thought I might not make it, fevers of 104 every night and took Tylenol with Codeine as the proven western medicine to control my temperature. My body was so weak that I could hardly walk a few steps without catching my breath. My body started to shut down and I had lost all strength, the ability to eat and digest anything, had chronic fatigue. My body was painful to touch, loss of hair, and a small lump that continued to grow day by the day on the side of my throat that was finally called Lymphoma. Not to mention all the toxicity in my liver caused by Tylenol every night to keep my temperature down.
I did all required lab tests, including blood, urine, hepatitis and any other things I might have caught in India. Everything was negative according to the reports. I was in for a blood test almost every week and remember my painful hands and arms bruised with lab technicians unable to find my veins for the blood tests. I was so convinced that I had not found the right doctor and all the diagnoses were wrong. My Divine Doctor was the only one to guide me now.
LOOKING BACK
This experience has helped me realize my work on this planet. I am committed to telling people of this ancient science and bringing balance. I imagine what a peaceful planet we can have if every single person is peaceful inside. The world we live in today is a very fast one and with this timeless knowledge, we can bring peace and harmony to each of our lives.
I have learned through experience to take care of the body with proper food, expression and diet along with meditation, yoga. Learning to bring balance and calmness to the mind, body and consciousness is always a challenge but I have learned to experience a deeper sense of life and living through the means of awareness of the self and the connection to the Divine.

MY OWN ANALYSIS
I think what had happened to me was a manifestation of emotions over the years since my early 20's that appeared as heat and blood-related disorders such as rosacea and skin problems. I didn't know how to work with releasing this trauma around my life. After my trip to India, my body couldn't take any more and simply needed to eliminate the heat but the channels of my body didn't know how to release. As a result, it caused the lymphatic system to get congested with toxins. After taking strong medications for 3 months, my body was clearly ready to either shut down or purge, especially with the liver being overloaded with toxins. My body needed ways to release all the physical and emotional stress and trauma and showed up in the form of a mysterious disease that continued to deteriorate my body and was finally named "cancer".
Every cell in the body is created and nourished not only by the foods we eat, but by what we see, hear, touch and smell. As for me, I didn't know how to process what had occurred in my life earlier so it manifested into blockages and that was my dis-ease. I still can't believe I had undergone this crazy time of testing my faith. However, my purpose in life was revealed and I have learned that you are what you feed your body at a mental, emotional and physical level.
In 21 days, I was home as a completely new and revitalized person with my guts cleaned out and nervous system balanced. I'm still amazed that all it took was a focus on my diet, awareness to my lifestyle with the detoxification program called Pancha Karma to completely rid the mysterious ailment. I'm grateful that instead of going through chemotherapy, my treatments comprised of soothing ayurvedic massages, oils and steams. I am truly grateful to Ayurveda and this is where my intense passion for Ayurveda begins as my path to follow and share.
