What's Your Dosha (Body Constitution)?

One of the pillars of ayurveda living and healing is treating the cause not the symptom. Each person is different and express various diseases and imbalances differently. Hence in ayurveda, the whole person is evaluated and given an individualized treatment regime. Though each person is different they can be grouped into three different constitutions or doshas; Vata (Air & Ether), Pitta (Fire & Water) and Kapha (Earth & Water) . These are derived from the elements:

Vikruti vs. Prakruti

Your prakruti is the constitution you were born with, which is constant and your balanced state. A person always has all three doshas present in the body. Your body type is based on which dosha is pre-dominant. Let's say a person has a high dominance of Vata and secondary dominance of Pitta; hence this person has a Vata-Pitta dosha.

Vikruti is the imbalance caused by the changing of seasons, life style, food, stress, events and emotions.

The following descriptions can give clues to your Prakruti and Vikruti. For a comprehensive and accurate assessment of your dosha and pulse reading, please call us at 650-494-9333.
